The System 1000 has been a value-added engineering solution for the Nuclear Environmental Qualification discipline since its introduction into the industry in the early 1980’s. It’s hard to believe that the first generations of the program were actually created on dual-floppy-driven, Radio Shack TRS-80’s! Since then, the program has grown into an industry icon for 10CFR50, Appendix B, compliant equipment life calculations and still serves as the “go-to” database for verified Arrhenius and radiation data for common organic materials.
Today, the program is owned and maintained by Curtiss-Wright/Scientech’s Nuclear Division in Clearwater, FL, and is now a vital part of the Curtiss-Wright EQ PowerSuite™. Introduced at the 2013 EQ Technical meeting, and launched in 2014, the EQ PowerSuite™ is comprised of three cost-saving tools for the EQ discipline: the EQ Databank (EQDB), the Environmental Qualification Management System (EQMS), and the System 1000. Each of which provide separate solutions to the EQ task.
EQDB – For more than 3 decades, nuclear industry professionals have relied upon EQDB to provide information and insights on environmental and seismic qualification of electrical and mechanical equipment. EQDB is the industry focal point and most cost-effective means to attain and maintain EQ knowledge, data and techniques. Now more than ever, as new engineers are coming into the discipline, EQDB serves as the cornerstone resource for both historic and emerging EQ-related information.
EQMS - EQMS is a Windows-based database application that provides a standardized electronic platform on which qualification can be documented and maintained in full compliance with 10CFR50, Appendix B. Historically, utilities performed the EQ task independently of each other resulting in unnecessary duplicitous work. EQMS provides a standard platform that helps each member utility perform and share evaluations both internally and with each other. Through EQMS, shared generic evaluations can be used to identify qualified equipment and evaluate test results for plant-specific requirements; thus, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars on testing similar components.
System 1000 – This robust EQ tool rounds out the PowerSuite with a 10CFR50, Appendix B compliant database of verified Arrhenius and radiation testing data for many of the common organic materials used in the production of safety related equipment. The program also performs aging calculations based on the Arrhenius Methodology. These include: Aging Time, Aging Temperature, Service Temperature, Qualified Life, Expected/Design Life, Accident Degradation Equivalencies, Test v. Requirement comparisons, Time-Temperature Regression, and log/unit conversions.
